Withdrawal of Gudrun Truffles - undeclared whey powder
22/12/2005
The standard ProdTrac software system traces allergens in ingredients, recipes and manufacturing batches of products. This not only helps enormously in ensuring that product labelling is accurate, it also enables the identification of individual batches of product that might be affected by an inadvertant allergen contamination.
If you were suddenly faced with a contamination alert, perhaps of product batches that were used as components of other products, could you immediately trace the movement of all affected products with 100% accuracy? With the ProdTrac software system you can, giving complete assurance to retail customers.
And you'll be surprised how inexpensive it can be, especially when it pays for itself many times over in resolving a single incident. Contact us for more details.
Crème d’Or Limited, one of the UK distributors of Gudrun brand Cocoa Dusted Truffles 250g size, has withdrawn the product from sale. The affected product contains whey powder that is not labelled as an ingredient and not specified as an allergy warning, making it unsafe for individuals who are allergic or intolerant to milk.
The product was manufactured in Belgium by Chocoladewerken Gudrun and is distributed in the UK by Creme d’Or and by the House of Sarunds Ltd. There may be other UK importers/distributors of the product.
Creme d’Or Limited has contacted the manufacturer in Belgium, and measures have been taken to resolve the issue. Crème d’Or has instructed all its customers to display Point of Sale notices (text reproduced below) to alert consumers of the problem. The distributor has also contacted the Anaphylaxis Campaign, which has informed all its milk allergic members directly via a mail shot of the withdrawal.
The House of Sarunds Ltd has also instigated a trade withdrawal of the product and a display of point-of-sale notices.

Recall of Old El Paso products - contamination with illegal colour Para Red
21/04/2005
Old El Paso Foods has issued a full product recall of their Old El Paso Brand Dinner Kits for Enchiladas and Burritos, due to contamination with the illegal dye Para Red.
The products have been distributed to Tesco, Morrisons/Safeways, Sainsbury’s, Nisa, Asda, James Hall, Somerfields, Budgens, E.H Booths and Co-Op. Old El Paso Foods is placing product recall notices in national newspapers on Saturday 23rd April 2005. A copy of this product recall notice from Old El Paso Foods is reproduced below.
Para Red is not a permitted colour under the Colours in Food Regulations 1995 and is not permitted in foodstuffs for any purpose. Para Red is chemically very similar to Sudan I . It has been advised that, although there is very limited data available it would be prudent to assume that it could be a genotoxic carcinogen.
