Withdrawal of Co-op crisps - undeclared ingredient information

15/12/2006

The standard ProdTrac software system traces allergens in ingredients, recipes and manufacturing batches of products. This not only helps enormously in ensuring that product labelling is accurate, it also enables the identification of individual batches of product that might be affected by an inadvertent allergen contamination.

If you were suddenly faced with a contamination alert, perhaps of product batches that were used as components of other products, could you immediately trace the movement of all affected products with 100% accuracy? With the ProdTrac software system you can, giving complete assurance to retail customers.

And you'll be surprised how inexpensive it can be, especially when it pays for itself many times over in resolving a single incident. Contact us for more details.

The Co-op has undertaken a product withdrawal of all batches of its own-brand multi-pack ready salted and assorted crisps (containing ready salted flavour crisps) due to a cross contamination error resulting in the presence of milk in this product. The ready salted flavour crisps in these multi-packs have been found to contain casein (from milk), which is not labelled. These products may be unsafe for people with a milk allergy or milk intolerance.

Point-of-sale notices (text reproduced below) have been displayed in all stores. In addition, the company has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Allergy UK, which will inform their milk allergic members of the withdrawal via their websites and direct mailing to members.

Update on recall of frozen ready-to-eat meals due to possible glass contamination – additional Asda products recalled

15/12/2006

The ProdTrac software system can give immediate and 100% accurate information on all batches of an affected product. This means that an initial recall announcement will be accurate by including ALL affected batches and excluding ALL non-affected batches. This accuracy continues throughout the operations, to trace product batches that may have been used as components of other products. With the ProdTrac software system you can, giving complete assurance to retail customers.

And you'll be surprised how inexpensive it can be, especially when it pays for itself many times over in resolving a single incident. Contact us for more details.

With drawal of Marks & Spencer Strawberry & Almond Crunch - incorrect allergy labelling

6/12/2006

With the ProdTrac software system you can, giving complete assurance to retail customers.

Marks & Spencer plc has undertaken a voluntary product withdrawal of a batch (identity UPC Code 0001243) of its own brand Strawberry & Almond Crunch breakfast cereal due to the omission of 'Milk' from the Allergy Advice box. The product contains whey powder, which is declared as an ingredient but ‘Milk’ has been omitted from the allergy advice box. Although the use of an allergy advice box is voluntary, it is strongly recommended that where they are used, they include all the specified allergens used in the food. In this case, although nuts, wheat and gluten are listed, milk is not, making this product potentially unsafe for people with a milk allergy.

The retailer has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Allergy UK w ho will inform their at risk allergic members of the withdrawal via their websites.

No other Marks & Spencer plc products are affected.

Recall of Cadbury chocolate products - possible Salmonella contamination

23/06/2006

Cadbury Schweppes Plc has undertaken a full product recall of seven different own brand chocolate products due to possible contamination with Salmonella montevideo. As the products do not comply with food safety requirements and will be on sale in a variety of outlets dealing with confectionery goods, local authorities have been requested to contact relevant food business operators to ensure that they are removed from sale, if necessary using the powers under the Food Safety Act to ensure that this is achieved. Cadbury Schweppes Plc has made arrangements for return of products through the trade.

Recall of Flora Original Spread - undesirable flavour

22/06/2006

Unilever UK has undertaken a product recall of selected packs of Flora Original Spread due to the presence of an undesirable flavour in the product. Product recall notices (text reproduced below) have been placed in the national press and point-of-sale notices isplayed in their customers’ stores to advise consumers of the reason for the recall and the actions they can take if they have already purchased the affected product.

-------------------- Text of Unilever Product Recall Notice --------------------

PRODUCT RECALL NOTICE

Flora Original Spread 1Kg

Our quality checks have identified the possibility that a number of packs of Flora Original Spread 1Kg from within a specific production batch have developed an undesirable flavour. The flavour may be described as burnt or metallic and of variable intensity.

Our investigations have determined that over-heating of the product during a production stoppage has resulted in this flavour defect. The flavour can, at its most extreme, be highly unpleasant and is certainly not up to the high quality standard you should expect from Flora products.

If you have purchased Flora Original Spread 1Kg with a Best Before date of 02-09-06 and the following time code against it on the lid...

02-09-06 06:00
through to 02-09-06 08:00
(the product also carries a code of L61400J119 beneath the Best Before Date)

...please call the Flora careline on 0800 146252

Please note that no other Flora products or production codes are affected.

It is of the utmost importance to us that our products reach you in perfect condition, so please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Withdrawal of Thomas Tunnock Snowballs and Caramel Log Wafers - incorrect labelling information

16/06/2006

The standard ProdTrac software system traces allergens in ingredients, recipes and manufacturing batches of products. This not only helps enormously in ensuring that product labelling is accurate, it also enables the identification of individual batches of product that might be affected by an inadvertent allergen contamination.

If you were suddenly faced with a contamination alert, perhaps of product batches that were used as components of other products, could you immediately trace the movement of all affected products with 100% accuracy? With the ProdTrac software system you can, giving complete assurance to retail customers.

Thomas Tunnock Ltd has recalled certain batches of own brand 4 and 8 carton Snowballs and 4 pack Caramel Log Wafers due to packaging errors resulting in incorrect labelling information. Although the internal wrapping on the individual Snowballs is correct, the product contains gluten, which is not declared in the ingredients list or contained in an allergy advisory statement on the outside package. Similarly, the Caramel Log Wafers contain soya, which is not declared in the ingredients list or contained in an allergy advisory statement on any part of the packaging. This makes these products unsafe for individuals who are allergic to or intolerant of gluten and/or soya.

Affected batches of both products have been withdrawn, and a notice (text reproduced below) has been placed on the company's website - www.tunnock.co.uk/news.htm - alerting all customers to the errors. In addition, Thomas Tunnock Ltd has been in contact with Allergy UK, Coeliac UK and The Anaphylaxis Campaign, which will inform its gluten and/or soya allergic members of the recall via a mailshot.

----------------------- Text of Tunnock's Recall Notice -----------------------

Customer Notice
Allergy Alert - Gluten and Soya

4 & 8 pack cartons of Snowballs
Date code - Use by 07 October 2006 (Prior)

Four packs of Caramel Logs
Date code - Use by 09 December 2006 (Prior)

Due to a labelling error on 4 & 8 pack cartons of Snowballs and four packs of Caramel Logs, Thomas Tunnock ltd has withdrawn these products from sale and is replacing them with correctly labelled stock as quickly as possible.

Gluten - the omission of Gluten on the ingredient list [and the absence of an allergy warning] on the outer packaging of Snowballs makes these biscuits/cakes unsafe for individuals who suffer from a Wheat/Gluten allergy.

Soya - the omission of Soya on the ingredients list of packs of four Caramel Logs makes these biscuits unsafe for individuals who suffer from an allergy to Soya.

If you suffer from either of these allergies and currently have any cartons of Snowballs or packs of Caramel Logs which you purchased before this labelling error was corrected, you are invited to return them to us for a full refund.

Snowballs and Caramel Logs can be eaten safely by people who do not suffer from these allergies.

Recall of La Rochelle Duck Orange & Cream Pate and Farmhouse Style Pate - labelling error

09/06/2006

The standard ProdTrac software system traces allergens in ingredients, recipes and manufacturing batches of products. This not only helps enormously in ensuring that product labelling is accurate, it also enables the identification of individual batches of product that might be affected by an inadvertent allergen contamination.

If you were suddenly faced with a contamination alert, perhaps of product batches that were used as components of other products, could you immediately trace the movement of all affected products with 100% accuracy? TESCO SCOTTISH PLAIN BATCH BREAD 800G
Best before 1 June 2006

British Bakeries announces the recall, as a precautionary measure, of its Mother’s Pride Scottish Plain Batch Bread 800g Medium Cut and of Tesco Scottish Plain Batch Bread 800g.

The affected loaves have a best before date of 1 June, 2006. They were sold in Tesco and a wide range of other retailers across the UK but mainly in Scotland from Monday 29 May.

The recall follows a short, isolated mechanical failure at one of British Bakeries’ Scottish bakeries. As a result, a very small number of loaves may contain metal fragments. Although the risk is small, British Bakeries has taken this precautionary measure because it believes the health and safety of consumers is paramount.

No other products have been recalled. British Bakeries asks anyone with an affected loaf to return it to the retailer at which it was purchased for a full refund.

For further information please contact the British Bakeries consumer care line on 020 7255 5483

Recall of Farley’s Soya Formula - milk contamination

17/03/2006

Farley’s has withdrawn one batch of its own brand Soya Formula. The product is labelled as suitable for a milk and lactose free diet but, during routine sampling, the affected batch was found to contain cows milk. Those with babies who are allergic to, or intolerant of, cow’s milk and dairy products have been advised not to use the product.

Farley’s has undertaken a product recall of the affected batch code. A media statement has been issued and product recall notices (text reproduced below) have been placed in the national press. In addition, Farley’s has been in contact with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Allergy UK, which have informed all of their milk/dairy allergic members of the withdrawal via a mail shot. Farley’s has also contacted the Vegan and Vegetarian Societies' headquarters to inform them of the recall.

No other batch codes of this product is known to be affected.
